Film the jar. Find the keepers.

America stopped making pennies, so every old jar is a small treasure hunt. Lay up to 200 cents on a printed grid, film both sides, and get the short list to check under a loupe.

How it works

Pour your penny jar on a sheet, film it, and find the few coins worth a closer look.

The US Mint struck its last pennies in November 2025, and old jars deserve a second look. Omega Jar reads up to 200 coins from one phone video and points to the few worth checking under a loupe. Almost every penny is worth one cent, and we say so.

  1. Step 01

Lay your coins on the printed grid

Print the sheet, spread up to 200 cents on it and film them. Flip them over and film the other side.

  2. Step 02

AI reads every date and mint mark

Each coin is found, its date and mint mark read, and checked against wheat cents, copper years and known doubled-die dates.

  3. Step 03

You get a short keeper list

A list of candidates with close-up crops, so you know exactly which coins to look at under a loupe.

What you get

Built for coin-jar households, roll hunters, clubs and coin shops.

01

A keeper list for every jar

Wheat cents, 1982 copper vs zinc, known doubled-die dates and proofs, flagged from one video.

02

Close-up crops to check

For each flagged coin, a crop of its date and mint mark, so you know where to point your loupe.

03

Jar after jar

A yearly plan for roll hunters and coin clubs, and a bulk plan for shops sorting big lots of cents.

First up: Your first jar is free, and we post real jar scans, keepers and duds alike.

Why now

The world just changed.

What changed, and where it was reported.

  1. The US Mint struck its last pennies on 2025-11-12. The final coins carry an ‘omega’ mark, and existing pennies stay legal tender.

    KTVU
  2. Coverage of the end of the penny says businesses will round cash prices to the nearest five cents.

    Washington Examiner
  3. Coin identifier apps scan one coin per photo. None found batch-scans a roll or a jar, and one says some errors need magnification a phone can’t capture.

What a person does

You lay out the coins and check the flagged ones yourself, with a loupe. Real grading and authentication stay with PCGS or NGC: we only refer you there, and we never grade a coin ourselves.

Questions

Straight answers.

Save my free jar
Is my jar worth anything?

Probably not much. Almost every penny is worth one cent, and the result page says so plainly. The fun is in the few coins worth a closer look.

Can a phone video spot every error?

No. Many die varieties are invisible on phone video, so we only flag candidates. A loupe gives the next answer, and a grading service gives the real one.

Should I melt my copper pennies?

No. Melting cents is illegal in the US, and we will never suggest it. Pennies stay legal tender, so keep them or spend them.
